The Big apple wasn’t sweet.

New York City was the dream city of the world. Some people believed that dreams can come true in New York City. However in 2001 the city was targeted by terrorists and the results were a tragedy of death and devastation.

From the beginning the city in American culture was the symbol of capitalism and the rise of modernity. The changes of 911 on New York would be represented how cities are functional as the catalyst of social, cultural, philosophical and political global change.

The world is getting closer the ramifications can be felt a distant events become personal, it no longer matters how far away we are.

This work suggests that we should consider the kinds of contexts that we view cities by examining images of the cities through the lens of the camera.

Even though an emergency situation has occurred, people stop to capture the scene in order not to forget it and to preserve it in the collective memory.

Henry Thoreau said that “many an object is not seen, though it falls within our range of visual ray, because it does not come within the range of our intellectual ray, i. e., we are not looking for it.”

What is visible is not all that is present.

We have to see what is visible can cover up the truth.

Technical Statements

This work is implemented by using OpenGL.

The program was coded in sound interaction, which is mapping the images to the foreground and the background separately whenever a mouse is dragging a cursor the left direction and the right direction. Also, the Tiff images are captured to overlap between the foreground image and the background image. The 911 video edited by Adobe Premiere and New York city photography are mapped in the source code.

The purpose of mouse interaction would be touch screen in the real work is that the spectators can be experienced to control this video and focused on this work.

This work suggests that we should consider the kinds of contexts that we view cities by examining images of the cities through the lens of the camera.

The New York City image is technically shown to the algorithm computed by data of 0 and 1 numbers.

A digital image is easy to manipulate but the image is hard to read inside it.
